ASBR COVID-19 UpdateUpdatedSunday March 15, 2020 byTerry Eby.
I write to confirm that ASBR is postponing the start of all baseball activities, to include both the house program as well as the Senator’s program. There will be no activities this weekend.
ASBR is taking this action for the personal safety of our players, families, and volunteers, and for the interest of public health in our community. It is based on sound scientific and public health advice regarding the novel Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic. That advice changes rapidly as we learn more about the virus, its spread, and the risks associated with certain activities. Therefore, ASBR will continually evaluate the circumstances, consult reliable advice, and update our approach. The ASBR Board will communicate regularly and we will resume activities only when it is safe to do so.
We will always be guided by the best interests of our players and families, and we abide by our commitment to being a responsible leader-organization in the Arlington community. In reaching our decision, ASBR has worked closely with our diamond sport counterparts from Arlington Babe Ruth, Arlington Little League and Arlington Girls Softball, and these leagues are likewise suspending their sports activities. They are excellent partners and are committed to the same aims. Although we are all disappointed by the need to suspend activities, we all agreed that this was the right move and we all took this step together.
We realize that our community—our country for that matter—is truly in uncharted territory as we all deal with this health crisis. We aim to do our part to help keep others safe while we all calmly ride this out. If there is anything that ASBR can do to support you and your family at this time, please do not hesitate to contact me. We will be in touch with more information as soon as we have something to report.
